FUEL TOMORROW WA
Privacy Policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Fuel Tomorrow WA handles information when you use the mobile application. Fuel Tomorrow WA shows Western Australia fuel prices for today and tomorrow, as published by FuelWatch (Government of Western Australia), and tells you whether to fill up now or wait. Fuel Tomorrow WA is an informational tool; it is not an official source and is not affiliated with FuelWatch or the Government of Western Australia.
In short: the developer receives no personal data from the app. There is no account and no analytics. Your suburbs and settings stay on your phone. Prices come from FuelWatch; purchases are handled by Google Play or the App Store. If you turn on the alert, your phone joins an anonymous push topic through Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Who is responsible
The data controller for Fuel Tomorrow WA is Maxime Silla Pellicer, entrepreneur individuel (France), 19 Rue des Causses, 91940 Les Ulis, France, publishing the app under the name Sillapps (“the developer”, “we”).
Contact for any privacy question or request, including complaints: contact@sillapps.com.
Google and Apple are independent controllers for the data they process through Google Play and the App Store, under their own privacy policies. For the alert's push notifications, Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) acts as a processor on the developer's behalf.
Data collected
Fuel Tomorrow WA does not collect, store on a server, or share personal data. There is no account, no analytics SDK and no advertising SDK. The only exception is the push token described under “Alert by push notification”, created only if you turn on the alert.
The suburbs you save, your fuel type, your favourite stations and your preferences (alert on or off, members-only sites, the brands you hide and the discounts you enter) are stored only on your device. The app also stores a local copy of the prices it has read, the lowest price in your area for each day over the last 56 days (for the 2-week chart and the weekday that is usually cheapest; it comes from FuelWatch prices and says nothing about you), simple usage counters (such as the number of days the app was opened, used to space out reminders and the rating prompt), whether the free Pro trial was started, and whether Fuel Tomorrow Pro is unlocked.
To help with bug reports, the app keeps the last few technical error messages on your device. They are never sent automatically: when you tap “Contact” in Settings, your email app opens with them in the message, and you can remove them before sending. If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to answer you.
On Android, the app turns off app backup, so none of this is copied to your Google account. On iPhone, app data is part of your device backup (iCloud or computer) like any app's, under your control and Apple's policies; the developer has no access to it.
Location
Location is optional. If you tap “Use my location” or “Nearest”, the app asks your phone (Android or iOS) for your approximate location. It is used on your device only, to find the nearest suburb in the app's built-in list and to show distances to stations. Your position is never sent to the developer or to FuelWatch; only the name of the suburb you choose is part of the price request described below. The last approximate position is kept on your device so distances can be shown the next time you open the app.
Google Play's data safety section lists “approximate location” because the app can read it on the device when you ask; it is optional, used only on your phone and never shared. The App Store's privacy label does not list it, because Apple counts only data sent off the device.
Network requests
The app downloads prices from the public FuelWatch RSS feed of the Government of Western Australia (https://www.fuelwatch.wa.gov.au/fuelwatch/fuelWatchRSS). Each request contains the fuel type, the suburb name, whether surrounding suburbs are included and the day (yesterday, today or tomorrow). It contains no identifier and no personal detail.
As with any internet request, FuelWatch can see your IP address; its processing is governed by the Government of Western Australia's own policies.
Purchases
Fuel Tomorrow Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play (or the App Store on iOS). Payment details are handled entirely by the store; the developer does not receive your payment information. The app only checks with the store whether Pro is owned. The free trial is recorded on your device only.
Alert by push notification
The alert (Pro) tells you around 2:35pm, once tomorrow's prices are out, whether tomorrow is cheaper or dearer. When you turn it on, the app registers with Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (and, on iPhone, Apple's push notification service), which gives your phone a push token, and subscribes it to one topic shared by everyone who uses the alert. Once a day, shortly after FuelWatch publishes, an automated job sends one message to that topic. The message is the same for everyone and contains no personal data: your phone then reads FuelWatch for your own suburb and works out the alert itself.
The developer never receives the tokens and keeps no list of users. Google stores the token to deliver the messages, as a processor, under the Firebase terms (firebase.google.com/support/privacy); Google can also see your IP address when your phone connects to it. Turning the alert off, or the end of the free trial, unsubscribes your phone and deletes its token. If you never turn the alert on, no push token is created.
Notifications, widget and background refresh
While Pro or the free trial is active, the app refreshes prices from FuelWatch in the background for the home screen widget, using the same request as above: about once an hour on Android, and when iOS allows it on iPhone. On Android, if you turn on the alert, the app also checks around 2:35pm (and every 15 minutes until 9pm if tomorrow's prices are late) in case the push above is late, and shows a local notification once a day. During the free trial, one local notification tells you the day before it ends. The widget reads prices stored locally by the app. The app may ask the store to show its standard rating prompt; Google or Apple handles that prompt under its own policy. None of these features sends data to the developer.
Data retention and deletion
All app data stays on your device. Cached prices older than two days are deleted automatically. The record of the area's lowest price keeps 56 days; older days are deleted automatically. You can remove saved suburbs and favourites in the app, or delete everything at any time by clearing the app storage or uninstalling the app.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing and to data portability. Because the developer holds no app data, there is usually nothing to access or delete on our side: everything is on your device. For purchase data, contact Google (policies.google.com/privacy) or Apple (apple.com/legal/privacy); for anything else, write to contact@sillapps.com and we will answer within one month. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request and at most 3 years after our last exchange.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in France the CNIL (www.cnil.fr, 3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07), in Australia the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (www.oaic.gov.au), or the authority of the country where you live or work.
Children's privacy
Fuel Tomorrow WA is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's data handling changes. Updates will appear on this page with a revised effective date.
