PLACA HOY
Privacy Policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Placa Hoy handles information when you use the mobile application. Placa Hoy tells you whether a vehicle can drive on a given day under local driving restriction programs: “pico y placa” (Colombia and Quito, Ecuador) and “Hoy No Circula” (Mexico City and municipalities of the State of Mexico). Placa Hoy is an informational tool; it is not an official source and is not affiliated with any government or transit authority.
In short: Sillapps does not collect any personal data. There is no user account, no advertising and no analytics or tracking SDK. What you enter in the app stays on your phone.
Data controller
The app is published by Sillapps, the trade name of Maxime Silla Pellicer. Full publisher details are in the legal notice. Contact: contact@sillapps.com.
Data stored on your phone
To work, the app stores the following data only on your device. Sillapps does not receive it:
- Your vehicles: name, plate, city, type (car or motorcycle), fuel, holograma (Mexico), whether the plate is foreign or local, the end date of a permit (Pico y Placa Solidario, pase turístico) and the expiry dates of the SOAT and of the technical inspection, if you enter them.
- Your settings: alerts on or off, alert times, verification reminders, light or dark theme.
- Error log: the last five technical errors of the app (message and place in the code, no personal data). They only leave your phone if you send them with "Contacto o reportar un error", which opens an e-mail to contact@sillapps.com that you can review before sending.
- Local usage counters: install date, number of days of use, start of the Pro free trial, and when the app last showed you the Pro offer and the rating request. They only exist so the app does not insist: for example, so it does not ask you for a rating more than once every few months.
- Technical data: a copy of the driving rules, the last environmental contingency status checked (Mexico), the scheduled alerts and whether Placa Hoy Pro is unlocked.
If Android backup is turned on, this data may be included in it. That backup is managed by Google in your Google account, under Google's privacy policy; Sillapps has no access to it.
Network requests
The app makes two kinds of requests, which never include your plate, your vehicles or any personal data:
- It downloads the current rules from
https://sillapps.com/placa-hoy/rules-v2.json, a static file hosted on GitHub Pages. - For vehicles in the Valley of Mexico metropolitan area, it reads the public air quality page of the Government of Mexico City (
aire.cdmx.gob.mx) to check whether an environmental contingency is active.
As with any visit to a web page, these servers can see your IP address and technical connection data. Their processing is governed by their own policies (GitHub and the Government of Mexico City).
Purchases
Placa Hoy Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Google Play Billing. Google processes the payment and your payment details; the developer does not receive them. The app only receives the purchase status (whether you own Pro) from Google Play. The 7-day free trial is stored on your phone, with no account.
Ratings
From time to time, the app may ask you to rate it through the official Google Play In-App Review API. Google Play shows and handles that dialog: the developer does not receive your rating through the app, and anything you post appears on Google Play under your Google account, according to Google's policies.
Notifications and widget
Alerts (Pro or free trial), reminders (verification, SOAT and technical inspection expiry, end of a permit, rotation change) and the end-of-trial notice are local notifications, scheduled on your own phone. The home screen widget reads the answers the app stores on the device. With Pro or the trial, an Android background task downloads the rules again (and, in Mexico, the contingency status) to keep the widget and alerts up to date, with the same requests described above. None of these features sends data anywhere.
Advertising and analytics
Placa Hoy shows no ads and includes no advertising, analytics or tracking SDK.
Google Play
App downloads and updates, purchases and ratings go through Google Play, operated by Google under its own privacy policy. Google may provide the developer with aggregated statistics (for example, install counts and crash reports) through Play Console; these statistics do not identify you.
Data retention and deletion
All app data stays on your phone. You can delete a vehicle in the app, or delete everything by clearing the app storage or uninstalling the app: uninstalling deletes all of its data from the phone. If your data is in an Android backup, you can manage or delete it in your Google account settings.
Your rights
Depending on the law that applies to you (for example, Law 1581 of 2012 in Colombia, the Federal Law on the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties in Mexico, the Organic Law on Personal Data Protection in Ecuador, or the GDPR in the European Union), you can ask for access to your personal data, its correction or deletion, or object to its processing.
In practice, Sillapps does not receive or store any personal data through the app, so it holds no data about you to look up or delete: everything is on your phone and under your control. If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply and keep them only as long as needed to handle your request.
For any question or request, write to contact@sillapps.com. You can also contact the data protection authority of your country (in Colombia, the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio) or the CNIL in France, where the controller is established (3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, www.cnil.fr).
Children's privacy
Placa Hoy is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's data handling changes. Updates will appear on this page with a new date.
