SHUBH SAMAY
Privacy Policy
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Shubh Samay handles information when you use the mobile application. Shubh Samay shows traditional Hindu time divisions (choghadiya, Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika Kaal, Abhijit and Brahma muhurat) calculated from the sunrise and sunset at a location you choose. It is an informational tool and makes no predictions.
In short: the developer receives no personal data from the app. There is no account, no server and no analytics. Your place and settings stay on your phone. The free version shows one banner ad served by Google AdMob, which processes some device data for advertising, with your consent where the law requires it. Purchases are handled by Google Play.
Who is responsible
The data controller for Shubh Samay is Maxime Silla Pellicer, entrepreneur individuel (France), 19 Rue des Causses, 91940 Les Ulis, France, publishing the app under the name Sillapps (“the developer”, “we”).
Contact for any privacy question or request, including grievances: contact@sillapps.com.
Google is an independent controller for the data it processes through Google AdMob and Google Play, under its own privacy policy.
Data the developer collects
None. The app does not send personal data to the developer, does not store data on a server and contains no analytics SDK. All timings are calculated on your device; the app does not download them. If you email us, we receive your email address and message and use them only to answer you. When you write from the app (“Contact us / report a wrong time” in Settings), your email app opens with a pre-filled message that includes the app version, your place with its coordinates and time zone, the app language and the app’s latest technical errors, if any, so that we can check a timing or fix a bug; you can edit or remove this before sending, and nothing is sent unless you send the email.
Location
Using your current location is optional. If you tap “Use my current location” and grant permission, the app reads one approximate (coarse) position, in the foreground only, stores the coordinates on your device to calculate sunrise and sunset, and names it after the nearest city from a list built into the app. The app never sends this position anywhere. You can instead pick a city from the list or type coordinates, in which case no location permission is used.
The “Today’s choghadiya” web page
The page sillapps.com/choghadiya/today/ calculates the same timings in your web browser, with the app’s own code: no account, no cookie, no analytics, and no request other than the site’s own files. “Use my location” asks your browser for your position only when you tap it; the position, rounded to about 1 km, is used in the page to calculate the timings and find the nearest city, and is never sent to the developer or anyone else. The place you choose is remembered only in your browser’s local storage, which you can clear at any time in your browser settings. Like any website, the site’s host (GitHub Pages) receives the technical data of each request, such as your IP address, to deliver the page.
Data stored on your device
The chosen place, your preferences (language, time format, alert settings), whether Shubh Samay Pro or its free trial is active, and simple usage counters (the first and last day you opened the app, how many days you used it, when a Pro reminder or the rating prompt was last shown) are stored only on your device, as is a short description of the app’s last technical errors (five at most), which reaches the developer only if you send it in a contact email. They are used to run the app and to decide when to show the ad banner, a Pro reminder or the rating prompt. Alerts and the optional morning summary are scheduled locally and the home screen widgets read timings stored locally by the app. When you share the day’s choghadiya, the image and text go only to the app you choose in Android’s share menu.
Android backup. If backup is turned on for your Google account on the device, Android may include these local settings in your Google backup so they can be restored when you reinstall the app or change phones. This backup is stored by Google under your Google account settings; the developer cannot see it. You can turn it off in Android settings.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free version shows one banner ad at the bottom of the main screen (not on the first day of use, never for Pro buyers, never in widgets or notifications). Ads are served by Google AdMob through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. To serve, measure and, with your consent, personalize ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect and use: device identifiers (advertising ID, app set ID), IP address and the approximate location derived from it, ad interactions (views, clicks), and diagnostic and performance data about the SDK. How Google uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Where the law requires it (European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and some US states), the app shows Google's consent message (User Messaging Platform) before any ad is requested. “Ad privacy choices” in the app's Settings lets you change your choice at any time when it applies to you. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.
Purchases (Google Play)
Shubh Samay Pro is a one-time in-app purchase processed by Google Play. Payment details are handled entirely by Google; the developer does not receive your payment information. The app only asks Google Play whether Pro is owned. The 7-day free trial of widgets and alerts is tracked on your device only.
Purposes and legal bases (GDPR)
Running the app (local place, settings, alerts, widgets): the data stays on your device and is not processed by the developer.
Personalized ads: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR), collected through Google's consent message, which also covers storing and reading information on your device. You can withdraw it at any time through “Ad privacy choices”, without affecting what was done before.
Non-personalized or limited ads (if you decline personalization): the developer's legitimate interest in funding the free version of the app (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Google then serves ads that are not based on your profile, and still processes limited data to deliver them, count them and prevent fraud.
Purchases: performance of the contract you enter into when you buy Pro (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR), and legal obligations.
Emails you send us: our legitimate interest in answering you.
Recipients and transfers outside the EU
The only recipients are Google (Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC) for Google AdMob and Google Play. The developer does not sell your data and shares nothing with anyone else.
Google may process data outside your country, including in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (under which Google LLC is certified) and on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
Retention
Data on your device is kept until you clear the app's storage or uninstall the app (an Android backup is kept according to your Google account settings). The developer keeps no app data. Emails are kept as long as needed to handle your request and at most 3 years after our last exchange. Data processed by Google is kept according to Google's policies: policies.google.com/technologies/retention.
Your rights
Under the GDPR (and the UK GDPR) you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw your consent at any time. For ads, withdrawing consent or objecting is done in the app through “Ad privacy choices” in Settings; you can also delete your advertising ID in Android settings. Because the developer holds no app data, requests about ad or purchase data are best sent to Google (policies.google.com/privacy); for anything else, write to contact@sillapps.com and we will answer within one month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority: in France the CNIL (www.cnil.fr, 3 Place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07), or the authority of the country where you live or work.
United States residents
Under US state privacy laws (such as those of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon), the developer does not sell personal information for money. However, showing ads through Google AdMob may be considered a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. The categories involved are identifiers (advertising ID, IP address), internet or other electronic network activity (ad interactions) and approximate geolocation derived from the IP address, disclosed to Google for advertising. No sensitive personal information is collected.
To opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information or of targeted advertising, use “Ad privacy choices” in the app's Settings when it is shown, and/or delete your advertising ID in Android settings. You can also ask us to know, correct or delete your information at contact@sillapps.com; we answer within 45 days, you may appeal a decision by replying to our answer, and you will not be treated differently for exercising these rights.
Users in India
Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can ask for information about your personal data, its correction, completion or erasure, withdraw your consent, and nominate another person to exercise these rights. Grievance contact: contact@sillapps.com (subject: “Grievance”); we will respond within the period required by the DPDP Rules. If you are not satisfied with the answer, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Children
Shubh Samay is intended for adults (18 and over) and is not directed at children. The developer does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
Security
The app keeps its data on your device and does not transmit it. Connections made by the Google Mobile Ads SDK and Google Play are encrypted (TLS). No software can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's data handling or the law changes. Updates will appear on this page with a revised date.
